HIS CONTROVERSIAL BELIEFS:

*Disclaimer: Do not hold me accountable if you particularly do not fancy some of his beliefs.  I am just informing you of his beliefs which means that accepting them is optional. This book belongs in the series because it had an impact on the world like the Wealth of Nations and The Science of Politics

One of Thomas Malthus' beliefs is that public housing schemes should be nonexistent because they stimulated early marriages and increased the population by doing so. Alike in terms of effects, higher wages had a similar "catastrophic effect". His solution was to delay marriage and to put restraints on the quantity of children.

He also believes that poor-laws tend to not benefit the poor in the long term. It increases their population without increasing the food supply. A poor man who gets married will not be able to support a family independently. This may increase the population of people in poverty and it would decrease the entire food supply increasing the cost. This in turn may make non-poor people more reliant on the parish making the whole situation worse in the long term.

Furthermore, he believes that the happiness of a country is not determined by high degrees of poverty, inhabitation, the inhabitants age, but "the proportion of the population and the food bear to each other."
