Wind Turbine Plan
* I plan on building a wind turbine sometime this year; It has to be at least about 0.4 kw, preferably 1kw which is due to a 1.5 or 1/2 hp motor respectively, (I think because 1.5hp about 1000 watts, 1/2 hp about 400 watts). When/If it is built, I will write a post on it, but for now, I will have this poor "CAD" drawing posted because I only have google draw currently.
I am debating whether to go plan A, (above) or plan B, below.

How Steel Beams Work
A steel beam was shaped the way it is because it was cheapest. Steel beams would be stronger if it was one solid block but they are still extremely strong when hollowed into a I or H or ▘ shape.
* The forces acting on a beam are Tension and Compression. The weight of the building pushes down on the upper half, "trying to compress it"while the lower half is in tension because it is being pulled on.
*The highest amounts of Force are at the Top and Bottom. The middle piece, or the web justs transfers the force to the thick flanges,This is the thinnest piece for that reason. However, by making it very long, although cubing it's stiffness/ strength, it has a lower ability to resists torsion or twisting.
